Summer 2010
CHAIRMAN'S CHAT
Summer has arrived - well I'm watching the rain run down the window as I write! I do hope the lovely warm weather comes back, but then, the rain will save the gardeners some watering chores and will help everything in the garden to grow and be ready for the round of flower shows just around the corner. The Summer Show will be back in the Events Field at Hazlehead Park over the last weekend in August and you will find more information on this elsewhere. If you would like another schedule, or know of anyone who would like to exhibit, then contact Tracey or myself. Because Tracey is in full time employment she would appreciate if exhibitors could put their entry forms to her as early as possible.
I take this opportunity to remind members that, unless the ground is exceptionally wet, there will be parking in the Events Field and also membership cards must be shown at the gate to obtain free entry to the show. I look forward to seeing many of you at the show, both as exhibitors and visitors.
Regards
Hazel Main

OUTINGS
38 of us travelled to Gardening Scotland at Ingliston at the beginning of June and enjoyed a lovely sunny day with lots to see and to buy judging by the amount of goodies stowed in the boot of the coach!
On Tuesday 27th. July a visit has been arranged to the garden at Crathes Castle. Make your own way there and we will all meet at the entrance to the garden at 7pm.
Please contact Hazel Main on 01224 781171 by 23rd July if you are interested in going along, if you have spare seats in a car or would like a lift. The cost for the evening will be £5.50 but if you are a member of the National Trust for Scotland, then admission will be free provided you show your membership card.
SUMMER SHOW
Although the Summer Show opens to exhibitors from Friday lunchtime, the set
up at Hazlehead starts on Tuesday with the arrival of the marquee, fencing etc. If you can spare even a couple of hours on Tuesday to help with the putting up of the fencing, this would be very much appreciated.
On Tuesday evening, the containers are emptied and all staging, tables etc are
transported to the marquee so that on Wednesday morning the setting begin. At
the same time, others are putting up the lighting in the marquee. These tasks are time consuming and help would be appreciated on Tuesday night since many hands do make lighter work.
Wednesday and Thursday are spent setting up the tables and staging, covering allwith paper and putting on the tiffany skirting all of which takes time. Security does not come on till 9pm so, even if you can only come in during the evening, there will be something to do.
There are only 16 Directors of the Society all of whom are kept very busy during show week and spend little time at home. If the show is to continue, help is desperately needed with the preparation.
If you can spare even an hour or two, fill in the form below and send it to
Lesley who can then work out a rota for helpers.
There will be a variety of stalls there with goods for sale and is planned to have a special display of Classic Cars this year. Last year some of you were lucky enough to get some free compost and we hope that there will be some available this year, but I believe it is in short supply, so come early if you are interested.
